Dan’s Plan for the People’s Agenda

My name is Dan Wolgamott. I’m a husband, dad, football coach, and State Representative with a proven ability to deliver results and win tough races.

I’m proud to be running as your progressive candidate for State Auditor.

AFFORDABILITY: Lower costs for families and provide universal and lifelong access to care

1. Universal and lifelong access to care

  • Affordable childcare & living wages: I will audit county and local distribution of state and federal childcare grants to ensure funds are reaching providers efficiently and are not being eaten up by administrative bottlenecks or fraud. I will also track and report on municipal wage data to actively highlight disparities.

  • Guarantee affordable healthcare & restrict profiteering: I will scrutinize the financial records of county-run hospitals and public health programs to ensure taxpayer funds are maximizing patient care..

  • Accessible, affordable, and dignified elder care: I will conduct strict compliance audits on local nursing homes and elder care facilities that receive public funding to ensure they are meeting financial and operational standards, exposing facilities that cut corners on care to maximize their margins.

2. Safe and affordable places to live

  • Cap lot rent increases for manufactured homes: I will publish financial reports detailing the economic impact of corporate buyouts of mobile home parks on local tax bases, providing lawmakers with the hard, undeniable data they need to stop the exploitation of people who live in mobile homes.

  • Build more affordable housing: I will audit local Housing and Redevelopment Authorities (HRAs) and Economic Development Authorities (EDAs) to ensure affordable housing funds, tax increment financing (TIF), and grants are being used strictly for their intended purposes without fraud or mismanagement. As a member of the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency board, I will vote to prioritize funding for deeply affordable housing and resident-owned cooperatives to prevent corporate profiteering and keep families in their homes. I will champion expanded assistance for first-generation homebuyers and implement strict 'clawback' provisions to hold developers accountable for maintaining high-quality, dignified living conditions.

  • Lower energy & insurance costs / weatherization: I will monitor and report on how local municipalities are utilizing federal and state climate and infrastructure grants to ensure the money is deployed equitably to the neighborhoods that need it most.

  • Help families buy homes: I will review local government down-payment assistance programs to ensure they are compliant, transparent, and effectively reaching first-time and low-income buyers.

3. Protect food assistance & supports for families to afford the basics

  • Protecting the social safety net: I will evaluate county-level administration of SNAP, WIC, and other welfare programs. By auditing these delivery systems, my office will identify and recommend fixes for bureaucratic delays that prevent families from accessing their legally entitled food assistance.

DIGNITY: Build a multiracial democracy that honors every person's dignity

1. Protect civil rights & free speech

  • Financial transparency in policing: I will closely track and publicly report on local government expenditures related to civil rights lawsuit payouts and police misconduct settlements, forcing transparency when municipalities try to quietly use taxpayer dollars to cover up civil rights violations.

2. Divest from corporations fueling genocide and human rights abuses abroad

  • Leveraging the State Board of Investment: As State Auditor, I will serve as one of four members of the Minnesota State Board of Investment (SBI), which manages tens of billions in state pension and asset funds. I will use this seat to introduce resolutions, demand reviews, and vote to divest state funds from corporations involved in fueling genocide and human rights abuses, as well as corporations who do business with ICE.

3. Rein in ICE, domestic military deployment, and militarization of law enforcement

  • Oversight of law enforcement funding: I will aggressively audit local police and sheriff departments' use of civil asset forfeiture funds and their participation in federal surplus programs, ensuring strict public transparency about exactly what military-grade equipment local forces are purchasing and how it is being funded.

COMMUNITY: Prioritize the quality of life of people and well-being of our communities over corporate profits

1. Fully fund high-quality public education and public youth programs

  • Protecting classroom dollars: I will conduct financial and compliance audits of public school districts to ensure education dollars are directly benefiting students and classrooms, while ensuring integrity and efficiency in district administrative contracts.

2. Prioritize our communities over corporate profits

  • Create vibrant community places: I will audit local park and recreation boards to ensure that funding for community centers and green spaces is distributed equitably across all zip codes, not just in wealthy neighborhoods.

  • Make polluting corporations pay for climate-driven disasters: I will help local governments accurately track and categorize the immense financial costs of climate-driven damages — such as flood mitigation and infrastructure repair—providing the state with the exact financial data required to successfully sue polluting corporations for damages.

On the State Board of Investment, I will prioritize investments in responsible companies and demand that corporations set aside funds for the climate-driven disasters affecting our communities. By leveraging our state’s portfolio, I will ensure that polluting corporations — not taxpayers — foot the bill for their damage.

  • Support local economies and small businesses: I will review the procurement and bidding processes of local governments to ensure they are fair, transparent, and accessible to local, minority-owned, and small businesses, rather than defaulting to massive corporate monopolies.
